Add ArcGIS Living Atlas layers to maps or scenes

If your organization administrator configured the portal to use ArcGIS Living Atlas of the World content, you can add these ArcGIS Living Atlas layers to the maps or scenes you create. Apps you create that contain these maps and scenes will use the ArcGIS Living Atlas layers too.

Add ArcGIS Living Atlas layers to maps

When you create a map in Map Viewer, you can search for ArcGIS Living Atlas layers to add to your map.

Follow these steps to search for ArcGIS Living Atlas layers in Map Viewer:

  1. Sign in to your organization.
  2. Click Map at the top of the portal website.
  3. On the Contents (dark) toolbar, click Add Add and click Browse layers Browse layers.
  4. Click My content and choose Living Atlas.
  5. Do any of the following to help you find ArcGIS Living Atlas layers:
    • Type search terms in the search box. You can also use advanced search to help narrow the search results.
    • Click Filter Filter to sort the layer results, change the sort direction, and narrow the search results. You can also filter using the ArcGIS standard category set.
    • Click the title of a ArcGIS Living Atlas layer to see its details. In the item details pane, expand Overview, Description, and Details to see more information about the layer. If the layer contains multiple layers, expand Layers to see more information about each layer. Click View details Item details to open the item page to see more information about the layer.
  6. Click Add on the item results page to add the layer to the map. Alternatively, click Add to map in the item details pane to add the layer to the map.
  7. Click Remove on the item results page to remove the layer from the map. Alternatively, click Remove in the item details pane to remove the layer from the map.
  8. When you finish adding the layers you need, click the Back arrow to close the search pane.

Add ArcGIS Living Atlas layers to scenes

You can add 3D ArcGIS Living Atlas layers to scenes you create in Scene Viewer.

Follow these steps to add 3D layers from ArcGIS Living Atlas to your scene:

  1. Sign in to your organization.
  2. Click Scene at the top of the portal website and open an existing or new scene.
  3. On the Designer (dark) toolbar, click Add Layers Add and click Browse layers Browse layers.
  4. Click My content and choose Living Atlas.
  5. Do any of the following to help you find ArcGIS Living Atlas layers:
    • Type search terms in the search box. You can also use advanced search to help narrow the search results.
    • Click Filter Filter to sort the layer results, change the sort direction, and narrow the search results. You can also filter using the ArcGIS standard category set.
    • Click the title of a ArcGIS Living Atlas layer to see its details. In the item details pane, expand Overview, Description, and Details to see more information about the layer. If the layer contains multiple layers, expand Layers to see more information about each layer. Click View item Item details to open the item page to see more information about the layer.
  6. Click Add on the item results page to add the layer to the map. Alternatively, click Add in the item details pane to add the layer to the map.
  7. Click Remove on the item results page to remove the layer from the map. Alternatively, click Remove in the item details pane to remove the layer from the map.
  8. When you finish adding the layers you need, click Done to close the search pane.
