What's new

The ArcGIS Instant Apps update includes the new features, app templates, and enhancements listed below.

Instant Apps home

  • When browsing content from the home page, you can click the new Map, Scene, or Group tabs, select an item, and explore the templates that support the preselected content before creating an app.
  • The Template filter on the My Apps tab is single-select to streamline filtering your apps by a single template.
  • The thumbnail in My Apps and an app's item page match. To ensure that the default thumbnail is meaningful, it automatically uses that of the map, scene, or group used in the app, and remains in sync even if you change the content later. You can edit the app's item details to use a custom thumbnail instead, but it no longer automatically updates to match the content used in the app. For apps created before the ArcGIS Enterprise 11.3 release, you must republish the app to update and synchronize the thumbnail; otherwise, My Apps will display the default template thumbnails for any apps without a custom thumbnail image.
  • The Save a copy button is available on the My Apps tab for apps in your organization that you have access to but don't own. If you don't want others to be able to save a copy of your app, open the item page, click the Settings tab, and turn off the corresponding Save as option.

Configuration

  • In 3D Viewer and Media Map, users can view floor-aware maps and you can enable the new Floor filter tool to allow users to filter floor-by-floor data.
  • Some templates allow you to provide translations for your custom text in the app so users can view your app in a specific language. Language switcher is available in 3D Viewer, Attachment Viewer, Basic, Interactive Legend, Media Map, Nearby, Sidebar, Slider, and Zone Lookup.
  • In some rich text editors in which HTML is supported, you can upload local images from your device to display in places such as an introduction window or a details panel (available in Sidebar, Portfolio, and Countdown).
  • When you configure 3D Viewer, Attachment Viewer, Chart Viewer, Exhibit, Insets, Interactive Legend, Media Map, Portfolio, Public Notification, Sidebar, and Slider with an introduction window, the window automatically displays a Don't show this again check box that allows users to hide the modal window the next time they open the app.
  • Most app templates have updated cover page configuration options, allowing you to create a full-size cover page that includes details such as a title, description, and options to include graphics and logos.
  • When using the Export to PDF tool in Exhibit, Insets, Nearby, Sidebar, and Zone Lookup, users can use an enhanced PDF layout with a north arrow and optionally include a custom map area, selected features, and the legend.
• Some templates have the option to exclude end user social media sharing options from the sharing menu. Social media sharing options are still available from the configuration panel.
  • Most single-map apps include a new Map area setting that combines an improved Navigation boundary configuration and a new Map view option to set the initial map extent for the app, which overrides the web map's default extent.

Templates

  • 3D Viewer supports attribute filtering, so users can choose an attribute and refine features based on the selected attribute.
  • Attachment Viewer supports attribute filtering, so users can choose an attribute to refine features and associated attachments based on the selected attribute. In the map-focused layout, clustering is supported to help you aggregate data.
  • Insets allows you to apply attribute filters to limit the features that appear in each inset map.
  • Media Map supports attribute filtering, so users can choose an attribute to refine features based on the selected attribute.
  • Sidebar has a new tool and several enhancements. The Oriented imagery tool allows end users to interact with and visualize imagery taken from any angle—including oblique, bubble, street-side, inspection, and 360-degree images. When using this tool, users can click a location on the map and use provided tools for exploring available oriented images in that area. Sidebar also includes the option for app creators to choose between the new default feature pop-up panel or the classic feature pop-up panel. The new feature panel includes the ability to view related records and aggregated pop-ups for clustered features.
  • Slider uses map extent as the default search method to filter results and you can set the maximum number of visible results for user searches. Slider also supports a configuration option that automatically plays the slider animation when the app is launched. In addition, Slider supports attribute filtering, so you can set up either Predefined or User input filters to refine layer features based on certain attributes.
